Project Rationale (Canon)

Image
Canon Pitch Presentation This is a pitch for my Canon project based around the concept of a “journey” which includes a poster, magazine cover and editorial promoting Canon products. My target demographic for this project are people between the ages of 16 and 26 who have used Canon products previously and defines a “Journey” as a adventure or trip to another place. With my audience in mind I have designed a poster concept and a magazine cover promoting Canon products. Canon Canon.inc is a Japanese company located Ota, Tokyo, they specialize in optical technology such as cameras, medical devices and printers. The company was founded in 1933 by Takeshi Mitarai, Goro Yoshida, Saburo Uchida and Takeo Maeda under the name “Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory”.  In 1936 the “Kwanon” (Japan's first 35mm focal-plane-shutter camera) camera prototype was developed which they would continue to innovate on over the next 20 years. Shortly after the Kwanon’s development, the company w...

Shortly after the Kwanon’s development, the company would be renamed to Canon. Canon became a symbol of Japanese technology during the 60’s which perpetuated the idea of Japan being more technologically advanced than other parts of the world. The original name of the company was Seikikōgaku kenkyūsho, however after the creation of the Kwanon, the company would rename to Kwanon which would be changed yet again in 1947 to Canon which is similar to a term in Buddhism.  As of 2023 the company crea...

Interpreting the brief (Canon)

Image
New Brief  My next brief after the NHS campaign is for Canon cameras and their journey campaign, were I need to design a print product or write a sponsored review for canon. My first project is to analyze pre-existing posters and magazines by Canon, afterwards I need to create a flat plan and mock-up of my product whilst considering layout, the subject and tagline as well as the theme of journey. I must analyze what works and doesn't work about my flat plan and concept and improve said elements. The landmarks I want to take photos of can only be accessed via a vehicle.  Canon.inc is a Japanese company located Ota, Tokyo, they specialize in optical technology such as cameras, medical devices and printers. NHS Evaluation (Better Health)

Image
Initially, with my better health poster I was going to use a model in place of the silhouette, however as the project developed I chose to keep the silhouette as it not only contrasted with the brighter background colors, but it could also represent the audience as a blank slate for the viewers to project themselves onto the silhouette, this was suggested by my audience who said that they weren't encouraged to be healthy by celebrities. The angle of the silhouette was changed from my concept images, from a side profile to a close up on the face, this was done to better convey that the poster is personal and about mental health. I used a green background in the final poster as it looks bright and appealing to the eye without being too visually loud. The halo in the final poster was added in response to feedback ,from my audience, that my the poster was too basic this same reason applies to the music notes. The text of the poster reflects the message of the campaign that being active...

Final products and Feedback (Health)

Image
P oster Feedback The primary criticism of my poster was that people couldn't tell who the target audience was, as well as the poster being empty. The aspect people enjoyed the most was the use of bright colors. People could easily identify the message of my poster. Overall my next poster should appeal more towards my target demographic whilst being more detailed. Some people criticized the use of a silhouette instead of a human face, which I disagree with as the silhouette is suppose to be vague as a reflection of the audience. This is my poster's second draft acknowledging audience feedback, I added more to the background such as music notes which will hopefully communicate the demographic of the poster better. I changed the font and size of the text as that was another complaint from my audience. Overall I prefer the updated poster design as the background is more unique and interesting as well as communicating who the poster is for. The colors are vibrant but not too bright...
