Interpreting the brief (Canon)

New Brief

My next brief after the NHS campaign is for Canon cameras and their journey campaign, were I need to design a print product or write a sponsored review for canon. My first project is to analyze pre-existing posters and magazines by Canon, afterwards I need to create a flat plan and mock-up of my product whilst considering layout, the subject and tagline as well as the theme of journey. I must analyze what works and doesn't work about my flat plan and concept and improve said elements. The landmarks I want to take photos of can only be accessed via a vehicle.

Canon.inc is a Japanese company located Ota, Tokyo, they specialize in optical technology such as cameras, medical devices and printers. The company was founded in 1933 by Takeshi Mitarai, Goro Yoshida, Saburo Uchida and Takeo Maeda under the name “Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory”.

In 1936 the “Kwanon” (Japan's first 35mm focal-plane-shutter camera) camera prototype was developed which they would continue to innovate on over the next 20 years. Shortly after the Kwanon’s development, the company would be renamed to Canon. Canon became a symbol of Japanese technology during the 60’s which perpetuated the idea of Japan being more technologically advanced than other parts of the world.

My idea for a Canon poster is to show local landmarks in the lens of a Canon camera, landmarks I would like to include in my poster are the Winter Gardens and Penshaw Monument. For my magazine cover I want to emulate the style and structure of some real Canon/camera magazine covers, which typically feature landmarks/tourist destinations, bold and colorful text as titles or straplines and many cover lines that advertise what is in the issue.

Difficulties I could face during this project are inconvenient weather conditions, difficult time management and the distance between my house and the landmarks I want to photograph could mean That I need to travel via car or bus.
